AaMCHe GAVE
Every day our truck completes a route that takes it through one of our 10 villages saying hello to community members, honking at people who litter, collecting garbage strewn across the village and bringing it all to our central sorting centre at Kashid.
Nandgaon
One of the oldest villages in this belt, Nandgaon is a prosperous village with tarred roads and lush Supari Wadis. Though tourism is the main source of income in this village, the high water table contributes to significant agricultural activity.
The Malwani masala made by the Bhandari community in this area is much sought after.
Kashid
White sands, clean waters and a long beach uninterrupted by rocks make this beach a jewel on this coast. The popularity of this beach is its boost and bane. Kashid is a very prosperous village thanks to tourism but the high concentration of commercial establishments has put pressure on the land. It has the largest over-the-ground dump - which holds more than 300 metric tons of waste.
Chikni
Originating from the mountains, a charming river meanders around this village. Chikni is peripheral to Kashid with guest houses and hotels spilling over. Increasingly it is a feeder village, in terms of labour, for Kashids numerous guest houses.
Sarva
Sarva is located at the foothills of the Phansad wildlife sanctuary. It has the gift of both the mountains and plains. With rich soil, agriculture is the mainstay of livelihood in this village.
Danda
Danda means pier in Marathi. This is a vibrant fishing community. The beach is a bit rocky and off the tourist radar. The juxtaposition of rocks and sand and the sea makes a dramatic landscape making it a sought-after destination for wedding shoots.
Vihur
Vihur has the largest dam in the area providing water to the neighboring villages. It has a diverse multi-racial population. It is also the only petrol pump and largest private english medium school in the area.
Upper Mazgaon
This is a new village on the foothills of the Phansad sanctuary leading up to the magnificent Nawabs Palace. The view of the sea and palace from the hills is dramatic.
Barshiv
Barshiv has a large dam fed by water coming from the hills of the Phansad sanctuary. Goat farming is the primary occupation in this area.
Borli
Borli is an ancient village known for its masalas. It is a meeting point of many tiny villages and has a well organised health centre by the Zilla Parishad.
Korlai
In Korlai the Portuguese set up a lighthouse, a fort, and a Roman Catholic church. This village has one of the oldest east indian populations. The dialect is a mix of Portuguese and Marathi.
